Juror Questionnaires Result in Change of
Venue
The Lincoln
County, Nebraska District Court mailed 127 questionnaires to potential jurors
for the Alisha Ochoa murder trial. Of the 127 mailed, they received 115
responses, the North
Platte Bulletin reported the story on February
13, 2008. The following six statements are claimed to be six actual
juror responses to a question about their opinion of the case.
-
"Both of them should be
executed. As a juror I’ll do my best to make sure that happens."
-
"I believe they are both guilty
and hope for the death penalty."
-
"It sounded like she was guilty
and that it will be a waste of taxpayers' money."
-
"She knew exactly what she was
doing at the time and had no remorse about it."
-
"I feel this was a very brutal
murder and both parties involved should be found guilty."
District
Judge John Murphy granted the defense motion for a change of venue. KHAS
TV also reported on this story and a video clip
is available. Ms. Ochoa was 15 years old at the time of the offense and
as such was never eligible for the death penalty.
