The purpose of voir dire is to allow each party an adequate opportunity to find out if the prospective jurors can be fair and impartial without any inappropriate biases. Research and experience have indicated that prospective jurors are more thoughtful and more honest on written juror questionnaires than in oral voir dire.
The reason? They are afraid of embarrassing themselves. As a result, in only oral voir dire, they give superficial and socially "correct" answers rather than the whole truth. With written juror questionnaires, jurors are afforded a measure of privacy about discussing any topic regardless of its sensitivity.
Our written juror questionnaires are intended to help the trial court and the trial attorneys to identify the attitudes, life experiences, personal values/beliefs, and demographics of prospective jurors that might influence their judgment in the case. We utilize state-of-the-art scientific questioning techniques that are court sanctioned in allowing jurors to reveal relevant aspects about themselves and, thus, better insure that you have important information about jurors in making important decisions during jury selection.
We also offer our services in analyzing pretrial juror questionnaire responses from the prospective panel of jurors. We can provide the trial team with a notebook that gives a "snap shot" of each juror and the characteristics of the panel as a whole. The notebook would also contain our scoring and ranking of the individuals in the panel. Our insights about prospective jurors can help the trial team by providing a scientifically based component to accompany the intuitive observations of the trial team and trial consultant team in the case.
